Red Light Therapy

Learn the science

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red Light Therapy (RLT) is a non-invasive therapeutic treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of red (630-660 nm) and near-infrared (NIR 810-850 nm) light to support cellular health and function.

How Does it Work?

RLT works by penetrating the skin and underlying tissues at precise depths. Red wavelengths primarily target the surface layers, supporting skin health, improving collagen production, and enhancing overall appearance. Near-infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper tissues to support muscle recovery, joint health, and cellular regeneration.

.

This therapy functions through photobiomodulation, where absorbed photons stimulate mitochondrial function, enhancing the production of ATP—the cell’s primary energy source. This increased cellular energy supports natural healing processes, reduces inflammation, and improves overall wellness and recovery

Mechanism of Action

RLT works through:

  • Enhanced mitochondrial function (ATP production)
  • Modulation of inflammatory cytokines
  • Increased blood flow via angiogenesis
  • Boosted fibroblast activity for collagen and tissue repair

Nervous System & Cognitive Health

Neuroprotection & Neurogenesis: Stimulates growth of new neurons and strengthens synaptic connections (e.g., in hippocampus), offering antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.

Cognitive function: Transcranial PBM boosts ATP, blood flow, and cellular repair in the brain, improving cognition, mood, and possibly slowing mild cognitive impairment and dementia progression .

Stem Cells & Regeneration

Stem cell proliferation: RLT increases stem cell viability and mobilizes them to injury sites—clinical study reported a 300% increase lasting 4 days post-treatment

Tissue repair: Enhances stem cell–driven regeneration in skin, muscle, and connective tissue

Circulatory System

Improved microcirculation: Increases nitric oxide release → vasodilation → better blood flow and oxygen delivery

Cardiovascular support:human studies show benefits for blood sugar and vascular biomarkers .
